Government District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Vomaravalli is located on the sea shore of Bay of Bengal near Kalingapatnam in Srikakulam District. As a basic training school it was established during the year 1952 at Vomaravalli in Srikakulam district. It plays a vital and meaningful role for Pre-service and In-service teacher education in the district.
Many resourceful and distinguished teachers in the coastal districts are the alumina of this institute. The Basic training school was upgraded as Teacher Training Institute (TTI) during the year 1975. A nine month pre-service teacher training program was conducted in Govt TTI . Based on the recommendations of the NPE 1986, all the Teacher Training Institutions have been upgraded as District Institute of Education and Training – giving wider scope for qualitative improvement of Elementary Education. In this context Govt TTI, Vomaravalli was upgraded into DIET by the A.P. State Government during the year 1990 vide GO.Rt.116, Dated 27.03.1989
